My mother was a very good mender. She enjoyed both the pleasure of stitching and also the satisfaction of extending the life of a garment.
I am good at mending too, and am excited to be bringing creativity and colour to this meditative task.
In the last few years I have discovered hand dyed wool yarns and am now using these for mending and bringing life and colour to garments.
In this workshop we will combine these yarns with Liberty fabrics and Indian cottons to individualise your own piece of clothing.
Bring along a pair of jeans, your favourite jumper that has a moth hole or a garment that just needs some rejuvenation and adornment.
You will learn my favourite weaving technique, Kantha running stitch, detached chain, Turkey work and appliqué for patching.
Hand dyed yarns are so beautiful to stitch with, they are very forgiving and also provide inspiration for further colour choices in your piece. Every stitch can be a surprise as colours appear and your mending takes shape. It feels a little like magic!
Enjoy the pleasure and freedom of stitching while working with quality materials and the deep experience of colour and ease of wool yarn.
I will provide an assortment of beautiful hand dyed yarn at the workshop with enough to take home so you can finish your piece.
